Stress Check is the most innovative tool available for quantifying your level of psychological or physical stress. By measuring your heart rate through the camera and light features on your iPhone, Stress Check can estimate your level of stress in real time.
Using Stress Check by Azumio you will be able to:
- Quantify your level of stress
- Determine the effects of different stressors
- Control stress and observe progress
- Reduce chances of certain chronic diseases known to be correlated with stress
Everyone has experienced changes in heart rate before taking an exam, giving a public speech, or when exercising. In fact, not only does your heart rate increase, but the time variations between consecutive heart beats become more random and scattered as well. By analyzing this factor of heart rate variability (HRV), it is possible to estimate your level of stress wherever you are, with no additional hardware.
Analysis of HRV requires heart pulse data to be measured continuously for a certain period of time. The more you use Stress Check, the better the app gets to know you and your heart.
Algorithms used to analyze HRV follow recommendations of European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and the North American Society of Pacing and Electrophysiology (NASPE).
If you consistently observe high levels of stress we recommend using Azumio’s stress relief application, Stress Doctor: a biofeedback app that uses deep a breathing technique for stress reduction.
Stress Check utilizes a method of quantitative stress level assessment developed by Biocom Technologies, a well-known developer of various professional health assessment technologies.Free Version Available
Stress Check FAQ
Stress Check doesn’t want to read my pulse. What’s the deal?
The following tips correct most pulse detection problems:
- Hold very still.
- Cover the entire camera lens with the soft part of your fingertip. Don’t worry about covering the LED flash.
- Press very, very gently on the lens. Pressing too hard cuts off circulation.
- Make sure your fingers are warm.
How does Stress Check measure stress?
Azumio pioneered the software that enables your phone’s camera to detect your heart rate. Using the same technology, we can detect the time between each heartbeat, and calculate what’s called heart rate variability (HRV).
HRV is an established indicator of physiological stress. If your HRV is higher–i.e., there is more variability in the time between heartbeats–you are experiencing low stress levels.
Stress Check says my stress level is low, but I feel stressed!
Indeed–there are many factors that go into your perceived stress level. Currently, Stress Check measures only HRV, which is the physiological factor. It’s totally possible that your emotional level of stress is high, while your physiological symptoms remain normal.
Azumio is working on a more comprehensive evaluation of emotional stress as we speak–stay tuned!
What is the difference between the Free and Pro versions of Stress Check?
The Pro version does not contain any advertisements, and allows you to store more than 5 measurements in your Timeline. The Pro version also enables you to turn your phone on its side to see a progress chart of your measurements.
